November 13, 2008 meeting: We'd like to thank Jason Bube, a Senior 3D Artist at NBC Artworks, who gavea great presentation on the process and concepts that NBC Artwork used whenthey created the show opening for "Countdown with Keith Olbermann" onMSNBC. We got a look at the whole process from the time they were given theproject through it's completion. Jason's tip on using Particles as amodeling tool to quickly put together some very complex images was just onesome great ideas he shared.
After Jason was finished with his talk we had time for the door prizeraffle. This meeting we raffled off three DVD magazines from Stash Media.Three members were the happy recipients of the 'Stash' 3D Animation,'Stash' Music Videos, and 'Stash' Motion Graphics. If you want to see moreof what 'Stash Media' has to offer visit them at Stash Media. Also on our thank-you list is Joe Gunn who added to the evening with his presentation that included some tips and tricks on "Hair" featuring someexcerpts from his 2007 Autodesk Masterclass he did a Siggraph. He started his presentation with some video examples of work that he has recently been involved in. Then opened up Max and showed us how some of the work was accomplished. One tip that stands out was his suggestion that we use Maxscripts to speed up our work flow. As an example, he offered his script available as a download on his site: Joe Gunn 3D Hair BaseMod for Max8 or Max9 - sets up Hair in 3ds Max with better base settings Joe finds speeds up the use of Hair.
With the two informative presentations by Jason and Joe, the generous donation from Stash Media of samples from their DVD Magazines collection for door prizes, and the refreshments provided by Autodesk, we believe we had another great meeting. On behalf of the 35+ members who were present we would like to thank everyone involved in making it a success.
As always we are grateful to the 'Pratt Center for continuing and Professional Studies' and it's helpful, professional staff that provides us with a comfortable space for our meetings.
