May 27th in South Korea, marks the day when 3D viewing comes that much closer to its theater counterpart; LG announces a 3D display that can produce HD content with a brightness twice that of their competition. The significance of this display is that it requires the kind of disposable polarized glasses provided to you at the movie theater.

Many hardware firms are trying to bring a 3D viewing experience to our home. There are of course growing pains. The consumers must be convinced that 3D at home is not just novelty. Prices must continue to come down. Nevertheless, the most prohibitive aspect in adopting 3D viewing technology for home use has been due to most solutions being paired with “mechanical blinders.”

Until recently the only eye wear available, that could provided a comparable 3D experience in home, were awkward, uncomfortable, not ready for prolonged use, and were tethered to another piece of hardware before going to the display. Newer solutions are wireless, but still have not abandoned the heavy and expensive eye piece, that is, until now.
